About the Artist
Sally Jones
Sally Jones was born on the Isle of Man in 1959 where
she took her Art Foundation course under Norman Sayle,
RI. Her application to study fine art was abandoned
when she needed "a proper job". Years as an architectural
technician was followed by a move later on to London.
Sally continued to draw for many years, selling numerous
pen and ink works and fulfilling commissions. It wasn't
until she moved to Cornwall, however, that she began
to paint again. She has attended classes in watercolours
and has been learning oil painting and portraiture techniques
under Tony Tewfik. Her work has sold well in Cornwall
and she regularly undertakes private commissions. The
artists she most admires are Norman Hepple and John
Singer Sargent. She is inspired by the use of light,
spontaneity and illusion of detail. Sally's painting
aims to capture a moment in time; often a movement or
expression in someone's eyes, bringing it alive for
an audience.
Many of Sally's pieces can be viewed/purchased
in
Liskeard Galleries, Liskeard, Cornwall
and
Mayflower Galleries, Tavistock, Devon
